Nearly 750 Bellingham Rock enthusiasts showed up to Civic Stadium early Saturday morning to collect their pieces of history. WASH-DOT gave away free pieces of the rock after it was removed from I-5 for blocking the state’s fish passage improvement project.
The first car in line showed up at 6:15 a.m., and by 9:30, the line was wrapped around the block. The joyful energy from drivers was infectious, and everyone had a story to share about the rock.
Most attendees said they planned to put their piece in their garden, or display it proudly on a shelf. Although the rock has met its end, the memories it created will live on through each and every piece.

Vamos is a program funded and created by WMBC and Vamos Outdoors Project in order for more elementary students to get outdoors and learn valuable transportation skills. We explored what the program means to the community and how it helps to improve the lives of Latiné, Migrant, and multi-lingual youth.

The Whatcom Volunteer Chore Program matches volunteers with low income seniors/adults with disabilities with day to day chores such as dog walking, house cleaning and yard work. Doug Cowgill and Azma Khan met in 2022 through the program and formed a strong bond through their weekly chore sessions, with Azma often cooking for Doug while he trims a tree in the backyard or does laundry. Doug and Azma have a caring and trusting friendship, formed primarily by their involvement in the Chore Program.
